Journal of Art Historiography

The Journal of Art Historiography is the world’s first international journal devoted exclusively to the study of the practice of writing art history. Besides containing material on the major innovators of the past it also seeks to encourage re-thinking ways in which the subject may be written in the future. The journal will ignore the disciplinary boundaries imposed by the Anglophone expression ‘art history’ and allow and encourage the full range of enquiry that encompassed the visual arts in its broadest sense as well as topics now falling within archaeology, anthropology, ethnography and other specialist disciplines and approaches. It will welcome contributions from young and established scholars and is aimed at building an expanded audience for what has hitherto been a much specialised topic of investigation. It supports an annual colloquium which, from 2011, will be held in the Department of the History of Art at the University of Birmingham. The journal is edited by Professor Richard Woodfield and supported by the Department of the History of Art at the University of Birmingham.
